Chrystal Rivet, the 30-year-old victim of a crash in Prince Albert, Sask., involving an alleged drunk driver, was four-months pregnant, according to her father.

Claude Rivet spoke to CBC News Friday about how the family was dealing with the woman's tragic death Wednesday.

"It's so unbelievable," Rivet said Friday. "There's nothing we can do. This happened and we feel helpless."

The crash happened at an intersection where police say a vehicle ran a red light and smashed into two other vehicles.

A 21-year-old man from a community south of Prince Albert has been charged with a number of offences, including impaired driving causing death.

On Friday, police in Prince Albert held a news conference to address some details of the crash, including an eyewitness accounts that suggested police were in pursuit of the suspect.

Sergeant Kelly McLean said officers spotted the alleged drunk driver and activated their emergency lights but were blocks away at the time of the crash.

"This was not a criminal pursuit in the classic sense," McLean said. "The driving actions of the accused were occurring prior to police arrival."

McLean said they there were trying to pull the suspect over, but were not engaged in a chase when the car crashed at the intersection of 28th St. E. and 6th Ave. E.

However, witness Chris Gongaware said he saw the suspect vehicle zooming past him, with the police following close behind.

Craig Curtis Kopichanski, 21, of Weldon, Sask., has been charged with a number of offences, including impaired driving causing death.
