Les Pavelick is probably best known for his Metro character, the star of live performances, comic routines and TV commercials. ((YouTube))A prominent Saskatchewan entertainer beloved for his comic Ukrainian-style songs has died.
Les Pavelick, 71, better known to his fans as Metro, died Tuesday night.
A family member confirmed Pavelick passed away at his winter home in Yuma, Arizona, of a suspected heart attack.
"My brother's whole life was focused on making people laught," Lorne Pavelick told CBC.
Pavelick, a one-time salesman, came up with the Metro character at a Christmas party and went on to a long career performing and, from time to time, recording. His Metro character was also featured on a number of local TV commercials.
One of his biggest hits was the '70s-era Christmas tune, "11 Days From Christmas."
In recent years, he continued to tour and was scheduled to perform in Yuma Wednesday night.
