Regina library board proposes 2.9% budget hike

The Regina Public Library is proposing an increase to its budget of 2.9 per cent for 2013.
According to the library, the overall budget will be just under $20 million for 2013, with most of that — about $16 million — coming from property taxes.
According to the library's budget submissions, it hopes to launch a number of new initiatives in 2013, including a program to encourage parents to read to their newborns.
The library is also planning to create language kits for new citizens to Regina.
The budget submission noted the library is still working on plans for its central branch in Regina's downtown. It had eyed a nearby property, owned by the Masons, but said they were not open to a sale.
"RPL is reviewing various options for the library's current location," the document said.
