Saskatoon police are investigating the death of a woman found unresponsive in a cell at the Regional Psychiatric Centre.

Officers responded to the centre located at 2520 Central Ave. at about 12:20 a.m. CST Sunday after staff found the 36-year-old unresponsive in her cell.

The woman was rushed to the Royal University Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police said there is no evidence of foul play, but the Coroner's Office along with the Major Crime Section are conducting an investigation because the woman died while she was in custody.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Jan. 22.

The woman's name has not been released.

The Regional Psychiatric Centre contains inmates at multiple security levels.
