A criminal charge has been stayed against a Regina high school student accused of making threats against the public on Facebook.
The 18-year-old came to the attention of police last month after allegedly making threatening comments at Thom Collegiate. Police said they later found a Facebook post that seemed to be by the same man.
At the time, police said they believed he had not formulated a plan and didn't have access to weapons, but the evidence was enough to lay a charge of uttering threats.
The alleged threat was a general one, rather than against a specific person or persons, police said.
Now, the case won't proceed. CBC News called the Crown prosecutor Thursday to find out why, but he wasn't immediately available.
Technically, the Crown can bring the charge back if it acts within 12 months, but in practice, that rarely happens.
The student was also suspended from school until the court case is resolved. The school board says it will have to review the decision and meet with the student and his family to plan its next steps.
