Despite temperatures dipping to -30 C or lower, hardy Saskatchewan shoppers were lining up for Boxing Day bargains on Wednesday.

In Regina, where it was -30 at 7:45 a.m. CST, there were about a dozen people lining up in the dark outside the Staples store on north Albert Street.

In Saskatoon at around 10 a.m., about 50 people were lined up outside the Lululemon store downtown. It was -28, but with the wind chill, it felt like it was -37.

Big crowds, particularly at the electronics shops, were expected in Regina, Saskatoon and other cities as the annual post-Christmas shopping frenzy got underway.

At a Saskatoon Future Shop outlet, general manager Don Hill said there were well over 100 shoppers in line right after the doors opened."It's been quite busy considering it was minus 30 when I got here at 4 a.m. — there were people still braving the line," he said.

Others were doing their bargain shopping online.

"You can flip to another website in 30 seconds," said North Battleford expert bargain shopper Tenille LaFontaine.

"You have the full advantage that you can price shop a heck of a lot quicker than if you were out there fighting the crowds."

People can expect to see big discounts well into January, LaFontaine said.
