Bjorkdale, a village of 200 people, is about 175 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert.

The Co-op gas station and grocery store in Bjorkdale, Sask., has burned to the ground.

It started some time before 8 p.m. CST Tuesday night in the village of 200, fire officials said.

The flames were put out by early in the morning Wednesday, but the ruins were still smoking at noon.

No one was inside and there were no injuries.

"Losing this business in the community now, it's very devastating," Jim Majewski, the mayor of Bjorkdale, told CBC News Wednesday. "I don't know how the town can rebound from it."

The nearest communities that can offer services that were lost are about a 30 minute drive away he said.

"You can drive and burn $10 in gas to have a full tank for tomorrow," he added.

Bjorkdale is about 175 kilometres southeast of Prince Albert.
