An 89-year-old man from the Kelvington, Sask., area is dead following a two-vehicle highway crash just south of the town on Tuesday.

It happened around 6 p.m. CST, the RCMP said. The man had been heading south in his car on Highway 38 when it collided with a semi-trailer heading west on Highway 49.

An RCMP traffic reconstructionist was working at the scene overnight, and investigators noted there is a stop sign on Highway 38 at that intersection.

There was blowing snow in the area at the time, but weather is not believed to have played a role in the crash, the RCMP said.

The elderly driver died at the scene.

Police haven't released the man's name.
