A statue of Walter Scott, Saskatchewan's first premier, is coming to the legislative grounds.

Premier Brad Wall announced Monday that the bronze statue of the man who was premier from 1905 to 1916 would be added to the Queen Elizabeth II Garden close to the Legislative Building in Regina.

Wall, the leader of the Saskatchewan Party, referred to the Liberal Party's Scott as "our amazing first premier" who "literally laid the foundation for Saskatchewan's first century."

A life-sized statue of Scott, showing him holding building plans for the legislature, will be installed on the north end of the garden next June.

The statue project was tendered and a couple from Cochrane, Alta., Shirley and Don Begg, was chosen to create it, according to a news release from the provincial government.
