City officials in Regina are recommending an unspent $200,000 — from a community investment budget — be directed to support Agribition, a regular trade show that uses facilities on the city's exhibition grounds.

The recommendation, which will be considered at a finance committee of city council on Tuesday, notes that Agribition has usually been provided a grant from Regina of $45,000.

According to officials, Regina has budgeted around $255,000 to support initiatives related to economic and promotional purposes.

As of the beginning of December, only $55,000 of that budget had been allocated.

Officials are suggesting spending the balance on two Agribition-related items: a $100,000 study on the economic benefits of the show and a $100,000 subsidy to cover costs associated with this year's event and next year's show.

The report to council notes that Agribition is an important event for the city and organizers are working with aging facilities.
