There is now a BC connection to a recent string of thefts from auto dealerships in Saskatchewan, after one of the stolen vehicles turned up in Kelowna, according to RCMP.

The dealership thefts, reported in October, were notable for how neatly glass was removed from entrance doors of the businesses.

Police were investigating at least four cases where that method of break and entry was used, at dealerships in Saskatoon and in two nearby towns.

According to the Kelowna detachment of the RCMP, officers were dispatched Wednesday to investigate a report of erratic driving in the community.

Although they had a good description of the vehicle, the SUV was gone from the area before officers could get there.

Then, on Wednesday night, someone in Kelowna dialed 911 and hung up.

Officers went to the address to investigate and were told the call was an inadvertent misdial.

As they were leaving, the officers noticed a white SUV in the driveway and matched it to their earlier file. It was also in their database as having been stolen from Saskatchewan.

The officers returned to the house to arrest the man but their suspect had taken off, on foot.

They brought a police dog to the location and found the man they wanted in a wooded area.

A 33-year-old man, from Saskatoon, was arrested and is in custody in BC.

Charges are expected.
