Jays should move on from past glories, Alomar says

Former Blue Jays star Roberto Alomar spoke approvingly of trade moves by the team. (CBC)Roberto Alomar, a former player for the Toronto Blue Jays, says the team needs to move on from past glories and work on creating a new legacy of champions.
Alomar and fellow star Duane Ward were both with the Jays when the team won back-to-back World Series titles in the 1990s.
They were the featured guests for a sports dinner to raise money for Big League Dreams which supports amateur baseball in Saskatoon.
Their visit came amid buzz in the sports world that the Jays are about to make an attention-grabbing 12-player trade with the Miami Marlins.
"We need to stop talking about the legacy that we left," Alomar said, reflecting on the Blue Jays of the 1990s. "I think they need to have a new legacy. And I think now you can see, with all the trades, they're committed [to] winning."
Duane Ward agreed the big trade may signal the start of a new winning era for the Jays.
"You know the Blue Jays made a commitment, and they made this commitment years ago, that they were going to spend a little bit of money [to] try to get a better ball club here, get better ball players here," Ward said. "I think it's just starting to happen a little bit sooner than I think they planned."
