Roger Jolly, a master-tuner, has donated a valuable concert piano to the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
The gift, a German-made Bechstein concert grand, is valued at about $200,000.
Jolly said his family thought for a long time about how to play a positive role in the music community, and finally settled on the gift of music.
"We've been involved in the music scene for the last 30 years in Saskatoon," Jolly said. "And I think the word legacy comes to mind. What would we like to leave that maybe somebody 20 years from now would remember us?"
Jolly said he is already enjoying watching young musicians play the piano.
The instrument is among the finest pianos in Canada.
"Your imagination is the limit as to what you can create on this piano," student Jared Tehse, said after having a go.
Tehse's reaction is music to Jolly's ears.
"Whenever you get the young kids turning around and saying 'Wow,' both my wife and I know we've done the right thing," he said.
The piano will also be a cherished gift for those who attend concerts and appreciate fine music.
It's new home is Convocation Hall on campus, where it sits, ready for recitals and concerts.
