A bomb threat that forced the evacuation of the elementary school in White City, Sask., east of Regina, on Monday morning turned out to be a false alarm.

The approximately 700 students and staff at the school were let back in that afternoon, after police searched the building.

At around 8:30 a.m. CST, one of the students had received information that the school might be at risk of an explosive device, police said.

However, they added the information was "of unknown reliability and origin."

Officers, including an explosive disposal unit and canine units, spent several hours going through the school looking for explosives.

RCMP said the students were taken to a nearby community centre as a precaution.
