Fire investigators in Saskatoon are trying to figure out what caused a house fire in the city's Eastview area late Monday afternoon.

Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services officials say crews were dispatched to the single-family home on the 2700 block of Eastview at around 4:10 p.m. CST.

Flames were visible from the house's front window, according to firefighters and witnesses.

"Somebody was driving by and heard the explosion of the window," Lynette Cyrenne, who lives across the street from the house, told CBC News.

"The living room window blew out, and there was fire in the living room and … she called the fire truck."

Crews brought the fire under control in about four minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading to the attic and to neighbouring homes, according to the fire department.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but firefighters did rescue a cat and a dog from the residence.

The family dog was found to be unconscious, but it was revived with a pet oxygen mask and sent to a veterinarian for examination.

The cat appeared to be unharmed, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Damage is estimated at $25,000.
