Three people are in custody facing charges of first-degree murder in relation to a double homicide Thursday on the Standing Buffalo First Nation, RCMP say.

According to police, two of the people charged — a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old male youth — were identified as suspects early on in the case and they turned themselves in to police on Thursday night.

The third person charged, a 21-year-old woman, was arrested near the home where the killings took place.

Police have been at the scene since Thursday morning collecting evidence. They have not released any information about what happened.

Roger Redman, the chief of the First Nation, said the community pulled together and that helped lead to the arrests.

Redman also said one of the victims, Jessica Redman, 27, was his niece. The other person who was killed was identified as Sheldon Yuzicappi, 28. Both were from the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation.

Chief Redman said, with the arrests, the families of the victims can move forward.

"Fear of these individuals in the community is not there," he said. "Now it's helping them deal with what happened."

The reserve is about 70 kilometres northeast of Regina.

The accused were identified as Brittany Bear, 21, and Kody Bear, 22. The name of the 17-year-old male charged can not be reported because he is a youth.
