A 42-year-old Regina man was arrested over the weekend for driving 134 kilometres per hour in a construction zone, the RCMP says.

Officers were set up at a road construction zone where workers were replacing a bridge on Highway 16 just outside of Maidstone, Sask.

At about 3:30 p.m. CST a man driving a black SUV was pulled over for driving 134 km/h in the 60 km/h zone.

The province said it would crack down on people speeding in construction zones after a young woman was hit and killed by a vehicle while working as a flag person on a road construction site near Midale, Sask. in August.

The man was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

He will have to appear before the Highway Traffic Board before he can get his SUV back.

The RCMP want to remind people to slow down to 60 km/h when traveling through orange zone or passing highway workers.
