A house fire on Monday morning has put a damper on a family's Thanksgiving weekend in Regina.
The fire started at about 10 a.m. on the 1400 block of Oxford Street.
Smoke was pouring out of the back of the home for close to an hour, a CBC News reporter on scene said.
Regina Fire Service says the fire started in the basement, but no cause has been determined yet.
A neighbour saw the smoke and called for help.
The family told CBC News that they had been out for breakfast when the fire started. They returned home to find fire crews trying to control the smoke.
"When crews arrived they located a fire in the basement in a bedroom," said Gerard Kay with Regina Fire Services. "There was no one home at the time, however, there was a cat in the house and that cat is deceased."
Kay said the fire had caused considerable damage to the home.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
