A month-long rash of vandalism in Loon Lake, where 25 cars were damaged, has been linked to a band of children, four of whom are under the age of 12, RCMP say.

According to RCMP, people in the village, about 272 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, were finding their cars and trucks broken into and left with smashed windows. About 314 people live in the village.

Although the vehicles' contents had been rifled, police said there were no reports of theft.

Eventually, police said they tracked the vandalism to five suspects, all from the area.

One was a youth, over the age of 12, who has been charged with mischief. The other four were all under the age at which charges could be laid.

"All the youth were spoken to and admitted to their involvement in the crimes," RCMP said in a news release issued Friday.

Police also said they were looking into other acts of vandalism, affecting cabins in resort areas.

"During this time of the year when the cabin owners leave the area, there is usually an increase in property crimes around the resorts," police said. "This year was no exception."

They said they are investigating 30 reports, all dating to Sept. 12, of break-ins to sheds and cabins at the Makwa Lake Resort community.
