A 38-year-old woman is in police custody in Saskatoon following a bizarre pair of assaults involving an elderly woman and a police officer.
Saskatoon police say an 84-year-old woman was walking on 4th Avenue North at around 4:45 p.m. CST Sunday when the suspect approached her, pushed her to the ground and kicked her.
The victim and the suspect did not know each other, police said in a release.
The suspect then entered the Saskatoon police headquarters and shouted that she had just assaulted someone outside, according to the release.
Officers found the injured 84-year-old woman on the sidewalk nearby. She was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police added that while the suspect was being detained and booked, she started kicking a male officer.
The suspect has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of assaulting a peace officer. She was scheduled to appear in provincial court on Monday.
