Saskatoon's (no) Parking Day approved

Saskatoon is going to try an experiment with no parking along some major thoroughfares — instead of cars, there'll be food, yoga and art.
On Tuesday, Saskatoon city council gave its approval to "Parking Day" on Sept. 21.
The event will temporarily remove metered parking and one lane of traffic along Broadway Avenue and 20th Street West.
For that one day, cyclists on those streets will get a dedicated bike lane, rather than having to share.
As well, parking spots will be turned into gardens and art installations.
Organizer Carrie Catherine is hoping people will get a different view of what Saskatoon could be.
"We have yoga classes, fitness classes, food trucks, live music, pop up fashion, retail stores," she said. "There's a little bit of something for everyone."
Catherine said she was pleasantly surprised to see council give its unanimous support to the event.
