Regina police are investigating after someone stuck razor blades on a slide in a public swimming pool.

On Sunday morning, before the Dewdney Pool opened, City of Regina staff discovered the blades embedded in the slide and at the bottom of the pool, which is at the corner of 8th Avenue and Montague Street in the North Central area.

Staff removed the blades and did a thorough sweep of the pool, equipment and surrounding area to ensure it was safe before opening the pool to the public, the city said in a news release Monday.

Razor blades were found in Dewdney Pool at 1401 Montague Street in the city's North Central neighbourhood.

"While incidents of this type are not common, the City of Regina has monitoring procedures in place to ensure all recreation facilities are safe for patrons," the news release said.

The incident was reported to Regina police. No arrests have been made to date.

Juan LaPlante, who went to the pool on Monday afternoon with his girlfriend and her kids, said he was shocked with what happened.

"It's totally hateful because there's kids in the pool, trying to have fun. Who wants to get cut up?" he said.

Stephanie Aisaican, who brought her nieces and nephews to the pool, said someone could have been hurt.

"These kids, they benefit from [the pool] every summer, you know? So it's, like, not a good thing," she said.
