The City of Saskatoon is making progress towards achieving a more representative workforce.

An annual report of employment equity shows the city is employing more aboriginal people, visible minorities, women and people with disabilities than it was a few years ago.

Employment manager Mubarka Butt said the higher numbers can be attributed in part to pre-employment training and work placement programs.

"The success of the numbers is a result primarily of the quality of the programs the City of Saskatoon is delivering and we're always looking to continuously improve in that area."

The visible minority employee population at the city is now at six per cent, a number that's doubled since 2007.
