A Saskatoon man has been charged with importing almost two kilograms of opium from Turkey.
The 26-year-old, who's originally from Iran, appeared in court Thursday morning charged with importing and trafficking the drug.
The investigation started earlier this month when the Canada Border Services Agency in Montreal intercepted two packages containing the narcotic, the Saskatoon police said.
In total, 1,844 grams of opium were seized.
The drugs originated in Turkey and were destined for a Saskatoon address, police said.
Earlier this week, Saskatoon police raided two homes in the city and arrested the suspect.
He remains in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
