A four-year-old girl who is believed to have been the victim of alleged abuse and neglect died in a Regina hospital Thursday evening.
The child was brought to a hospital Wednesday in an unresponsive state.
Police were called to the hospital to investigate what happened to the girl and determined she had been the victim of abuse and neglect.
Hospital staff managed to revive the four-year-old, but she remained in critical condition.
Police discovered the girl had a two-year-old sister who was later brought to hospital so she could also be treated for signs of abuse and neglect.
She remains in hospital in stable condition.
The two caregivers of the children, Tammy Lynn Goforth, 35, and Kevin Goforth,37, have been jointly charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The couple made their first court appearance on Thursday morning. They will remain in custody until their bail hearing on Aug. 9.
Police said that any changes in the charges against them will be read in court at that time.
