An 18-year-old man from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been arrested in connection with a death, RCMP say.

According to police, a man was found seriously injured on the side of a road in the northern community on Saturday around 6 a.m. CST.

He was unconscious and had suffered a number of injuries to his head which police said were the result of an assault. The man was taken to the local medical clinic and then transported to hospital in Saskatoon. He died of his injuries on Monday.

The man who died was identified as Norman Casey Stamp, also from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

The accused is facing a charge of second-degree murder.

The Montreal Lake detachment of the RCMP said their investigation was ongoing and were asking anyone with information on the case to contact them at 306-663-4420.

The community of Montreal Lake is about 220 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
