A Warman, Sask., mother who pleaded guilty to sexual interference with three 14-year-old boys has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Kelley Minogue has also been ordered to undergo treatment for sexual offenders and her name will be on a lifetime sex offender registry.
Minogue was sentenced Thursday at Saskatoon's provincial court where Judge Barry Singer heard the case.
"I believe she is an insecure person with self-esteem problems," said Singer.
The judge said Minogue had been in a position of trust as a hockey mom, similar to that of a teacher, and was responsible for the well-being of her son's friends while they were at her house.
He said she took advantage of the social pressure the boys were feeling.
Because the boys are minors they or anyone related to them cannot be identified.
Minogue initiated sex with son's friends
Court heard Minogue is divorced and had joint custody of her children.
Her 14-year-old son often had his hockey friends over at her house, where she supplied them with alcohol.
The boys gave Minogue money to buy the alcohol, which she brought back to the house.
Minogue admitted she was more like a friend to her son than a mother and that she allowed him to order her around.
Court heard that Minogue made sexual jokes with her son's friends and she initiated at least some of the sex that happened with the three boys.
Families react to Minogue's actions
The parents of one of the boys read a victim impact statement to the court Thursday morning, saying Minogue stole their son's innocence.
Minogue apologized to the boys and their families as well as her own family.
Outside the courthouse, one of the parents spoke to CBC News.
"She can be sorry all she wants," said the parent. "When you're an adult and you're in a situation in charge of children you're meant to be an adult and take care of them, not do this kind of thing."
