A documentary now being shown in Saskatoon chronicles a memorable championship season for the University of Saskatchewan men's basketball team.

The Huskies won the national championship in 2009/2010, in a season filled with excitement, drama and tragedy.

The winning season was the first time the Huskies won the national title, and the team dedicated the season to a former player, Brennan Jarret, who died following complications during surgery to treat testicular cancer.

Michael Linklater was one of the star players on the team.

"It's exciting to see that our season was documented," Linklater told CBC News at a screening of the film Thursday night. "We'll be able to relive that over and over again, like on the screen, rather than just in our heads, and be able to share that with friends and family."

The documentary is called Underdogs and, while it follows the men's team during its run for the championship, director Tom Simes says the film also honours the university's athletics program.

"When you think about it, we're celebrating 100 years of Huskie athletics," Simes said. "This is their first championship in basketball."

Underdogs is also set to be shown at the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon on Saturday and Sunday.
