Officials with the Saskatoon Health Region say an engineer's report about a structural problem is behind moving ten residents out of the St. Mary's Villa in Humboldt.

Bonnie Blakley, a vice president with the region, said Wednesday that officials were acting on safety concerns identified by the engineer.

"We felt, based on that report, that there were enough risks identified structurally with that flooring that it required us for the safety of everybody in that building to have those [residents] ....moved," she said.

According to Blakley, no one who is moving requires medical care.

She also listed a number of costs, associated with the move, that will be paid for by the region.

"We will help with deposit and [the] difference in the rent and those things, as we transition," Blakley said. "Relocation costs and packing and those things."

The cost differential between rent at St. Mary's Villa and a resident's new accommodation will be covered for 11 months.

The region said it expects to spend about $250,000 on the move.

Some family members have expressed concerns about what they viewed as an abrupt move by officials to move residents out of the facility, which is about 104 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
