The cost of heating your home in Saskatchewan could soon be going down by about $4 a month.

SaskEnergy is applying to change its rates two ways — it wants to reduce what it charges customers per gigajoule for natural gas and increase what it charges to deliver the fuel.

The net effect will be savings of about $50 per year on the average residential bill, the provincial government-owned gas utility says.

The proposed changes go to the province's rate review panel. After they make their recommendations, the proposal will go to cabinet for a final decision.

If the changes are approved, they'll go into effect on April 1.
