A 51-year-old man is in hospital after being shot in the upper body and driving 15 kilometres for help.

The shooting happened over the noon hour Thursday near St. Walburg in the northwest part of the province, the RCMP said.

Another man from the area, 46, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and a number of weapons offences. He'll be in custody until his first appearance in Lloydminster provincial court on Feb. 13.

Police said the injured victim drove to a house and called the RCMP.

He was taken to hospital in North Battleford suffering from gunshot wounds. He has since been transported to hospital in Saskatoon for further treatment. His injuries are described as serious.

St. Walburg is about 90 kilometres northeast of Lloydminster.
