Regina's mayor, Pat Fiacco, has a news conference planned for Tuesday to announce whether or not he will seek another term.
Fiacco has led the city since 2000.
Notice of the news conference was issued on stationary emblazoned with the motto 'I Love Regina,' a slogan Fiacco popularized while in office.
According to his biography on the city's website, the slogan is important to Fiacco.
"In Regina, no three words have been imprinted more on the culture of the community than 'I Love Regina'," the biography states. "This positive mantra is not just a slogan but a symbol of the pride Reginans share in their community and a desire for their city to be the best it can be."
During his current term as mayor, Fiacco has championed an ambitious plan that would see downtown rail lands transformed with, at the heart of the area, a new football stadium and event complex.
As part of the vision, the city-owned Mosaic Stadium — home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders — would be redeveloped into a mix of residential and commercial uses.
The plan calls for a significant private sector role.
Fiacco has also stressed the need for infrastructure improvements and lamented the city's limited ability to raise revenues to fund necessary projects.
The news conference is set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. CST.
People looking for a clue about his intentions might take note that the date is Valentine's Day, which could suggest a tie-in to Fiacco's 'I Love Regina' campaign.
Municipal elections are set for Oct. 24.
