Saskatoon police were called to an apartment building on the west side of the city Thursday after two boys were seen going into a suite with what looked like a handgun.

As a safety measure, an elementary school close to the apartment, W. P. Bate, was briefly put under a lockdown so that nobody could come in or go out. Officers went to the apartment on the 500 block of Avenue W South and found four boys between the ages of 12 and 13 — and a pellet gun.

Once the boys were found, the lockdown was lifted.

Police have not determined yet whether charges will be laid.

Last month, police were called to a different school after an 11-year-old boy brought a .45 calibre handgun in his backpack.

The gun discharged accidentally, but no one was hurt. An adult has since been charged with firearms offences in connection with that incident.
