Two boys have been treated for hypothermia after falling through a hole in the ice on a frozen dugout.

It happened Tuesday near the village of Hyas on the east side of Saskatchewan, the RCMP said.

Five boys ran onto a fenced dugout that was being aerated. Aeration prevents thick ice from forming so livestock can get to the water.

When two of the boys fell into the freezing water, two others held onto them while the youngest went to get help.

Their mothers came and managed to pull them out. The boys were treated for mild hypothermia.

Hyas is about 50 kilometres northwest of Kamsack.
