A Regina police officer has been charged with impaired driving following an incident in the city early Sunday morning.

Regina police got a call about a suspected drunk driver on the 1000 block of Park St. just before 2:30 a.m. CST.

The Regina Police Service said officers pulled over a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man and took him into custody without incident.

The man they brought in was an off-duty police officer, Cpl. Darryl G. Blampied.

Following an investigation, police charged the 10-year veteran of the force with impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level over .08.

Blampied was released from custody and his first court appearance has been set to Feb. 9.

The chief of police will be announcing "administrative decisions" about Blampied on Tuesday morning, the police service said.
