Chantelle Cathcart, 23, died in hospital after she was stabbed at an apartment on the west side of the city early Tuesday morning.
Dale Cote, who lives in a house across the street from the apartment building, told CBC News women at the party were fighting in front of his house hours before Cathcart was stabbed..
"It kind of flowed into my yard and I just told them, you guys either leave or I will call the cops," Cote said. "And maybe if I'd phoned the cops, that girl would be alive today."
Cote said his grandson's girlfriend lives in the apartment suite where the altercation happened. He said the grandson left the apartment with his newborn baby earlier in the evening when the party started getting out of hand and came to Cote's house.
