Regina's YWCA was evacuated on Tuesday for a short time when the elevator malfunctioned. Kent Morrison/CBCThe YWCA in downtown Regina was evacuated for a short while Tuesday morning when the elevator began to spark and emit smoke.
About 120 children who attend the YWCA's daycare program were taken across the street to Regina City Hall at around 8:30 a.m. CST.
A fire crew inspected the building before reopening the first floor.
The upper five levels remained closed while crews waited for a repair company to look at the elevator, which appeared to be stuck on the sixth floor.
The building was declared safe by 10:30 a.m. and the children were allowed to return, although the elevator remained out of commission.
