A Regina man who used a hammer to beat his roommate to death has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Lance Gibson was sentenced Friday. He had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing Guy Lenius.
Court learned that the victim was hit between 30 and 100 times.
Gibson, 53, was rooming with Lenius, 47, in a home on Garnet Street in Regina.
Lenius was discovered dead in a bedroom on April 15, 2006.
Defence lawyer Bob Hrycan said Gibson heard a voice in his head telling him to kill Lenius.
Gibson also told the court that he was angry with Lenius over an incident a few weeks before the killing.
Gibson claimed he was attacked and robbed by a friend of Lenius' and believed Lenius was behind that.
Both men had been struggling with addictions.
"I felt great remorse since day one." Gibson told the court Friday. "He was my friend."
Court heard that Gibson was addicted to cocaine and alcohol.
