An RCMP vehicle was damaged in a shooting on the Red Earth First Nation. David Shield/CBCA 19-year-old man from the Red Earth First Nation northeast of Saskatoon is facing a charge of attempted murder following an alleged shooting involving RCMP officers early Tuesday morning.
Police announced the attempted murder charge, along with a weapons charge, on Wednesday.
They added that three other men who were arrested along with the shooting suspect were released and had not been charged.
Police earlier reported that two officers were shot at when they were responding to a call about gunfire in the community early Tuesday morning.
The officers were not hurt, but the windshield of their vehicle was damaged. Police said the officers fired back.
Police said Wednesday that Davis Demery Lester Whitehead had been charged with attempted murder.
He has appeared in court and ordered to remain in custody until at least his next court appearance, which is set for Thursday.
Police added that their investigation is ongoing and more charges could yet be laid.
The Red Earth First Nation is about 300 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon
