Regina police have arrested a 13-year-old boy who's accused of being involved in three incidents in which people were bear-sprayed and then either threatened or had their bikes stolen.

Bear spray contains chemicals that when sprayed in the eyes cause pain or even temporary blindness.

The teen was scheduled to make his first appearance in Youth Court on Wednesday charged with robbery. Because of his age, his name can't be released.

Police said the charges refer to a series of incidents that happened on Saturday afternoon and evening:

  • A group of half a dozen teenagers approached three 17-year-old boys near the corner of Elphinstone Street and 5th Avenue in North Central Regina. The 17-year-olds were sprayed with bear spray and had their bikes stolen.
  • Later, a 13-year-old at 8th Avenue and Princess Street was robbed of his bike after a group of youths allegedly threatened him with bear spray.
  • A 20-year-old man who was working on his vehicle behind a home in the 2100 block of Reynolds St. was approached by a group of youths who allegedly demanded money and tried to spray him with bear spray before running off down the alley.

Police are looking for two other suspects in addition to the 13-year-old boy.

They're asking anyone with information to contact the Regina Police Service at 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
