Unveiling a piece of its election platform on Friday, the Saskatchewan NDP is pledging to have 50 per cent of the province's power come from renewable sources by the year 2025.

Currently, about 3/4 of the power the province uses comes from coal and gas.

NDP leader Dwayne Lingenfelter says his party wants to end Saskatchewan's reliance on fossil fuels to produce electricity.

"We will incrementally transition the Saskatchewan power grid away from coal and focus on building new capacity on renewable fuels," he said.

The party hasn't said how much that will cost. It also promises to put more money into recycling.

The election is Nov. 7.
