Police say they have shut down a credit-card and debit-card forging operation in Regina and have charged three men from the Montreal area.

The three, who are all in their 30s, are facing charges of possession of card-forging equipment, possession of credit card data and identity theft. They're also charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

The investigation started earlier in the month after stores in Davidson and Lumsden reported that their point-of-sale terminals had been tampered with.

Police searched a Regina address on Saturday and found what they describe as a forging lab.

They seized electronics, computer devices, and tools and equipment.

RCMP was telling merchants Tuesday that as part of their daily cash-handling procedures, they should do checks on their card-reading machines to verify that they have not been compromised.

The public is also advised to monitor their bank statements and report any suspicious transactions to their card issuer, the police said.
