Saskatchewan RCMP may be the only people in the province who appreciate a farmer's muddy field. It helped them arrest several suspects in an auto theft.

Early Monday, the Mounties received a report of a stolen vehicle near the town of Clavet, about 20 kilometres east of Saskatoon on Highway 16, the RCMP said in a news release. Officers found the vehicle abandoned and began a search of the area for the thieves, believed to be on foot.

With the help of an RCMP tracking dog, the officers followed the suspects through a field back toward Clavet. That's when one of the officers attempted to stop another vehicle leaving the town.

The vehicle began to pull over but then drove away in an effort to evade police, according to the release.

Stuck in the mud

The vehicle was finally stopped in the Rural Municipality of Blucher when it became stuck in a muddy farmer's field. The suspects attempted to flee on foot, but pursuing officers and the tracking dog were able to make the arrests.

Three underage boys and two adults from the Saskatoon area could face charges of theft, flight from police, mischief and obstructing a police officer.
