The Saskatchewan Soccer Association says insurance will cover some lost money after its former executive director was charged with fraud.

On Monday, the Regina Police Service said it had arrested Kelly Boyd Clark, 44, and charged him with fraud, forgery and uttering forged documents. Uttering can mean using forged documents.

Until recently, Clark was executive director, which would put him in charge of day-to-day operations at the soccer association.

The charges, seven counts in total, were in connection with an alleged loss of $80,000 from the amateur sports group, the police said.

Clark is scheduled to be in court on June 13.

On its website, the soccer association was telling members that it's tightening up how it operates.

"As a result of this unfortunate incident stringent measures have been implemented to ensure that any future occurrences of this nature are not repeated," the association said.

"The association wishes to also inform the membership that a great portion of the estimated financial loss will be recovered through our insurance."

It's not the first time an executive director of the soccer association has been charged with defrauding his employer.

In 2005, Jerry Michael David Schulte received a six-month conditional sentence after pleading guilty to fraud under $5,000.
