Vianne Timmons is the president of the University of Regina. CBCThe University of Regina has approved an increase in tuition fees, ranging from three per cent for most students, to eight per cent more for some graduate level studies.
The fee hikes were included as part of the university's budget plan for 2011-2012, which will see overall spending of $168 million.
The university did not have complete details on the tuition fee hikes, saying the information will be published on its website in a few days.
According to information already on the university's site, a typical student currently pays $4,410 in tuition, plus other course fees that can reach $931 for the school year. Students must also pay a student union fee, an athletics fee and what the university calls a "service fee."
The university said about 30 per cent of its revenue comes from fees.
Last month, the University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, announced its students will pay 3.2 per cent more, overall, in tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Fees vary by program but in Saskatoon, a typical arts student at the U of S will pay $5,716 in tuition next fall. The U of S also collects a range of additional fees.
