Saskatchewan doctors have voted in favour of a new four-year agreement — after going nearly two years without a contract.

The deal between the Saskatchewan Medical Association and the province was ratified Tuesday. Doctors voted 95 per cent in favour of the contract.

The agreement is retroactive to 2009, covering the time period April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2013.

The contract includes a 24-per-cent pay increase, a general fee increase, compensation for family physicians providing after-hours calls in metropolitan areas, financial incentives for rural family physicians, and new programs to help recruit and retain Saskatchewan doctors.

The Saskatchewan Medical Association represents about 2,000 physicians in the province.
