Wynyard RCMP have warned local residents of a telephone scam. (CBC)RCMP in Wynyard, Sask., are warning the public of a telephone scam where callers try to obtain credit card numbers.
Police said people in the area have received calls from scammers claiming to be representatives of a major credit card company.
The scammers tell the intended victim that their card was used in purchasing illegal arms overseas. The scam becomes complete when the caller asks for verification of a credit card number and they obtain it.
RCMP say they have not received any complaints from actual victims and encourage anyone receiving such calls to not to provide any credit card information, but to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at www.phonebusters.com, or 1-(888)-495-8501.
