The Saskatchewan Party's Gordon Wyant won a provincial byelection Monday evening in the riding of Saskatoon Northwest.

With all 41 polls reporting, Wyant led the second-place candidate, Jan Dyky of the NDP, by 3,051 votes to 1,711 votes.

Three other candidates had about 400 votes combined.

Wyant's win gives the Saskatchewan Party 38 seats in the provincial legislature, while the NDP holds 20.

The seat was vacated at the end of August by MLA Serge LeClerc of the Saskatchewan Party.

The other three candidates in the byelection were:

  • Larissa Shasko for the Green Party.
  • Manny Sonnenschein for the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan.
  • Eric Steiner for the Saskatchewan Liberal Party.

The Saskatchewan Party tweeted its congratulations to Wyant, adding: "Thanks to all who came out and voted!"

He tweeted back: "I can't say thank you enough to all those who made this election victory possible."
