(Sheryl Rennie/CBC) A bone found by a missing persons search team on the western outskirts of Regina is not from a human, police said Sunday.

Danita Bigeagle has been missing since Feb. 11, 2007.

"Each returned the opinion that the bone found is not human," police spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said in an emailed statement.

An item of clothing was also discovered about 10 metres from where the bone was found, police said. A belt, hair band and piece of red cloth were also found about a half-kilometre from the bone.

But as the remains are not from a human, police said they have no reason to believe the discovery of the clothes has any significance.

"The discovery of the clothing appears to have no connection to any police investigation," Popowich said.

Bigeagle, a mother of two, went missing from the city's downtown about 3½ years ago.

Last weekend, Bigeagle's mother said she had raised $10,000 as a reward for information that could help find her daughter.

The search team was in the area after Bigeagle's mother got a tip to look there.

Police have contacted Bigeagle's family to let them know the results of the experts' examinations.
