The Saskatchewan government has shut down a private vocational school in Estevan, leaving 18 students looking for a new place to study.

The Academy of Learning in Estevan, in southeast Saskatchewan, had its certificate of registration cancelled Wednesday for "failure to comply with the legislative requirements governing private vocational schools," a government news release said.

Students have been told about the cancellation, and Saskatchewan's Ministry of Advanced Education said it would help students either continue their post-secondary education, or they would receive tuition refunds.

The school was privately owned and did not directly receive public money.

There are other Academy of Learning schools across Canada, including four more in Saskatchewan, which are in Lloydminster, North Battleford, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

The schools bill themselves as career and business colleges and offer courses in everything from accounting to hospitality.
